The Siuslaw National Forest, established in 1908, is a diverse and production region extending from Tillamook to Coos Bay along the Oregon coast. The forest encompasses over 630,000 acres of unique and varied ecosystems. 

Abundant rainfall and mild winters provide excellent growing conditions for a variety of vegetation species. The Siuslaw National Forest's temperate rain forest, coastal influence, ocean-forest interface, relatively young Douglas-fir forest, and cultural history make it unique among all other National Forests. 

Four major rivers flow out of the Siuslaw National Forest into the Pacific Ocean–the Nestucca, Alsea, Siuslaw, and Umpqua–providing important habitat for anadromous fish. Many other smaller streams and tributaries add to the routes salmon and steelhead take to their ancestral spawning grounds. 

Recreational opportunities in the Siuslaw National Forest range from primitive to developed. Visitors can explore on their own through activities like berry picking, fishing, off-highway vehicle riding, wildlife viewing, and hiking. They can also attend organized activities such as participating in guided walks, taking classes, and viewing special exhibits.
