Description

This workshop is intended for anyone who's completed Backpacking 102 or has strong and frequent backpacking experience. in this course, we'll provide an introduction to orienteering, advanced navigation, and considerations for longer trips. 


-how to use a map and compass to take bearings and triangulate precise locations
-introduction to pursuing off-trail routes
-extended trip planning and detailed nutritional guidance
-basic self-care: sleep, entertainment, blisters, poison oak, sunburn, rashes
-introduction to basic gear repair

The course is led by SMC staff with years of experience working on multi-week backcountry hitches.
