Training & Clinics
Training and clinics with Siskiyou Mountain Club
We want to train more trail volunteers to help maintain their favorite trails, or ones we assign to them. We provide training opportunities at little to no cost for the public, including saw certifications recognized by the U.S. Forest Service and other agencies. So whether you are new to trail maintenance and want to learn more, or if you're a seasoned sawyer who is ready to adopt your favorite trail, we are here to support. Check out our calendar for current training opportunities.
Just email trevor@siskiyoumountainclub.org for more information on training opportunities and to learn more. If you are a group who would like to host one of our trainings and start maintaining your favorite trails, or ones we assign, just email trevor@siskiyoumountainclub.org or call 458-254-0657.
Examples of trainings include:
- Introduction to trail maintenance. Includes scouting, brushing, and developing "trail eyes."
- Treading and drainage. Often times trails have filled in with material or been damaged by erosion. Learn how to properly re-tread a trail surface so that it drains properly.
- Logging. Whether you're using a crosscut deep in the wilderness or a power saw on your favorite community trail, we operate training modules to help sawyers gain skills and the certifications necessary to work under agreements on federal land. Our training program is part of the USDA Forest Service's National Saw Program.
- Advanced skills. Rock work. Rigging. Construction.
Examples of clinics include:
- Introduction to backpacking and Leave No Trace
- Wilderness First Aid, First Aid, and CPR courses
- Identifying public lands to visit and planning trips
