The summer is flying by, and our crews have been all over, keeping the backwoods trails alive.
Our first group of ten interns started the season on 1 June on the Little Chetco Trail in the Kalmiopsis Wilderness. For their second hitch, they made the long drive to the south end of the Siskiyou Wilderness in Northern California and worked on the E. Fork Blue Creek Trail.
The second group of interns joined the fun on 26 June, and both crews headed back to California to the Marble Mountains Wilderness and the Bridge Creek and Haypress Trails.
After a short break, both crews made their way north to the Bull of the Woods Wilderness on the Mt. Hood National Forest. They spent an intense 10 days working toward reopening trails that had been unusable following the Bull Complex Fire in 2021.
Then it was back to the Marbles for another six days to finish up on the Bridge Creek and Haypress Trails. Many of the interns will wrap up their season in the Sky Lakes Wilderness this coming week and return home.
Not counting their current work in the Sky Lakes, the crews have removed brush from nearly 37 miles of trails, repaired more than five miles of tread, and removed a whopping 1,293 logs (yes, really). We are all grateful for their care and sweat.
