Staff - Wooley Creek & Bridge Creek - Apr 5-9 '25 | Crew of 4 staff spent 5 days completing routine trail maintenance on the Wooley Creek and Bridge Creek trails. Focus was on clearing seasonal downfall of logs and tread issues that had occurred over the winter. Bigfoot Trail Alliance had cleared all logs from Wooley Creek Trailhead to the Wooley Camp inholding. We cut all logs from Wooley Camp to Fowler Cabin. One large rootwad remains about 1 mile west of Fowler Cabin. This rootwad requires some sort of rigging to remove that we were not prepared to tackle on this trip. Trail is fully passable to hikers but impassable for pack stock (see photos). On Bridge Creek, logs were cleared from Fowler Cabin to approximately 1 mile uphill. Sawyers were very close to reaching the campsite about 1.5 miles up the hill. Conditions on Bridge Creek were as expected for a trail that has not received full maintenance in a few years. Brush sections are getting thicker, but the trail is still passable. Some tread areas are getting narrow, but nothing that would hinder travel. The biggest obstacles were 12-20'' diameter trees that were falling in the burned areas and tangled green tanoak tops that fell over the winter in the forested areas. All log obstacles were cleared 1 mile up, but conditions for the rest of the trail are unknown. Logging: Cut approximately 50 logs and many handsaw tangles on Wooley Creek. Cut approximately 15 logs and many handsaw tangles on Bridge Creek. Brushing: No brushing was completed Treading: Completed small sections of tread-repair on sloughed in areas on Wooley Creek, especially where small creeks had washed out some of the trail bed. Completed one large rock wall where a rootwad had tipped over approximately 1 mile west of Fowler Cabin. |
